What is the difference between Cyber Essentials and Cyber Essentials Plus?
Cyber Essentials is a verified self-assessment of five technical controls. Cyber Essentials Plus adds an independent, hands-on technical audit of those controls.
How long does certification take?
Typically a few weeks to a couple of months, depending on how much needs fixing. The Plus audit must be completed within three months of your Cyber Essentials certification.
Does Cyber Essentials need renewing?
Yes. Certification lasts 12 months, so you need to recertify every year.
Do we need Cyber Essentials if we already have ISO 27001?
Often, yes. Many contracts ask for Cyber Essentials specifically. ISO 27001 covers how you manage information security as a whole; Cyber Essentials verifies a specific set of technical controls.
