Want to know what it’s like working at Conosco? In this blog series, we’re chatting to different members of our team and giving you an insight into what a typical day looks like for them.
This week we had a chat with Stacey Ewer our Service Desk Analyst. Stacey is part of our Corporate Services team and is responsible for a variety of tasks such as sourcing and procurement, client billing, maintaining client asset registers and dealing with client queries. Working from our South Africa office, Stacey’s role requires her to interact with every department within Conosco.
Stacey, what gets you out of bed in the morning?
Multiple snoozed alarms and strong coffee! Well, that and my 11 year old.
What is your all-time favourite movie? – You only get one choice.
Such a tough one for me! If pushed I’d have to say Schindler’s List.
If you could have any job what would it be and why?
Forensic psychologist. I studied Criminology as part of my Psychology course, and criminal profiling fascinates me! I love real-life crime and investigation documentaries and trying to work out the why behind people’s actions.
Or I’d open a bookshop and spend my days reading books and sipping coffee.
What three words would your friends use to describe you?
Loud, loyal and sensitive
If you could only have three apps on your smartphone, which would you pick?
WhatsApp, camera and my weather app (I have reached that age where knowing the weather and talking about the weather are very important!)
How do you like to spend your weekends?
I love being outside and thankfully live in an area with plenty of beautiful bush and forest walks. If it’s a rainy day I’ll curl up with a book or a good series.
What keeps you awake at night?
Bills and a pre-teen daughter.
How do you like to start a working day?
A cup of good coffee and some yoga. I feel stiff and grumpy all day if I don’t get my stretches in!
What does a typical day in the life of a Conosco Service Desk Analyst look like?
Busy from start to finish! A typical day might consist of; sourcing hardware/software, attending a team meeting or two, punching out some quotes, compiling an asset list or three, attending to the operator call queue, being generally amazing, responding to internal queries etc.
What’s your funniest client moment?
I once accidentally added kisses (xxx) to the end of an email to a client. I tried in vain to recall the email and then just hoped they wouldn’t notice – they definitely noticed. They sent kisses back!
What’s the biggest misconception people have about your position?
That it’s simple and straightforward admin. It’s more often than not dealing with multiple queries and still answering phone calls with a smile!
Employee well-being is important to Conosco. What do you do to break up your day and get away from the desk?
I try to step away and go for a walk around the garden, or do some stretches. Even just a few minutes at a time can help you reset. I make sure to connect with a friend or family member every day, and having my daughter around ensures I’m constantly interrupted during my day .
What piece of advice would you give to your younger self?
Just let it go. Some things are out of our control.
What is your proudest moment at Conosco so far?
Beating my own case closure record.
What is the most rewarding part of your role?
Seeing all our hard work and sourcing skills come to fruition, with a happy and satisfied client.
What’s one professional skill you are currently working on?
I am currently studying towards my ITIL4 Foundation qualification. ITIL is a set of practices for IT services and asset management. It’s all about aligning our services with the requirements of the business. I’m always looking for new challenges and ways to develop my skills having previously taken courses in HTML5 and CSS/MS Dynamics 365/Introduction to Python programming.
Why do you enjoy working for Conosco?
It really is a family – everyone genuinely cares about each-others wellbeing and we all go out of our way to help support one another.
Three words I would use to describe Conosco’s culture are flexible, fun and welcoming.
